Special issues
For more than a decade, JEMS has published special issues devoted to topics of major academic and policy importance. They consist of collections of essays by leading specialists with an editorial introduction.
The March 2004 issue was devoted to the theme Family migration and the new Europe and is guest edited by Adrian Bailey and Paul Boyle. In 2003, JEMS published special issues on Albanian migration and new transnationalism (Vol. 29 No. 6), guest editors Nicola Mai and Stephanie Schwander-Sievers; on Bordering European Identities (Vol. 29 No. 5), guest editor Ulrike H. Meinhof; and on immigration policy implementation in Europe (Vol. 29 No.2) guest editors Bill Jordan, Bo Stråth and Anna Triandafyllidou). The October 2002 issue was devoted to the theme of EU enlargement and East-West migration (guest editors Adrian Favell and Randall Hansen). In October 2001, JEMS published a special issue on transnationalism and identity (guest editor Steven Vertovec) while Robert Kloosterman and Jan Rath edited a special issue on immigrant entrepreneurship in April 2001. Cristiano Codagnone guest-edited a special issue on comparative state responses to ethnic conflict in April 2000. Caribbean migration was the focus of a special issue in April 1999 while the October issue that year was devoted to ethnic mobilisation and political participation in Europe.
