UNESCO MINORITY STUDIES
DEPARTMENT ELTE
The Institute of Sociology and Social Policy organises courses on basic issues of interethnic relations and minorities. Students are also introduced to basic skills which are necessary to intervene in inter-group conflicts that can occur in ethnic communities, urban neighbourhoods, industrial workplaces, political organisations, trade unions, and the mass-media. The Masters programme in Sociology in Ethnic and Minority Studies aims to: a. provide a systematic study of intererethnic relations, minority problems and processes in post-communist societies within a comparative perspective; b. train future policy-makers or expert advisers in issues and conflicts between regions, nations, ethnic groups, minorities and majorities in various parts of Europe; c. train future scholars in sociology, socio-cultural anthropology, political and ethnic studies and social psychology, to carry out research in Eastern Europe.
The Institutes programme also offers field trips to Eastern European regions where co-existence between ethnic groups can be observed.
