The Institute of National History was established in 1848. Its basic task is to study the history of Macedonia and the Macedonian people, including all the minorities and ethnic groups living there. The Institute is divided into seven research groups. So far the Institute has published over 200 monographs, documents, bibliographies and other publications. Since 1957 it has published the periodical Glasnik.

The Faculty of Law was founded in 1951 as an extension of the Faculty of Law and Economics. Since 1956 it has functioned as an independent institution of higher education. Over 10,000 students have graduated from the Faculty. The Faculty staff is frequently associated with research projects in the fields of the judicial and political systems, economics, legal history and social science. In addition, the Faculty of Law performs a consultative function in the field of corporate law, institutions and administration.

The Marko Cepenkov Institute of Folklore was founded in 1950. It studies the customs and traditions of everyday life of the Macedonian people and all the ethnic groups living in Macedonia, thus providing an almost unique centre in Europe for the investigation of relations between different cultures in a strongly individualistic society. The Institute has an archive which is continuously enriched in order to preserve the knowledge of traditional cultures.
